Mood-Net Explained: The Metric That Shows Real Opinion

Mood-Net is PJQ core metric. It measures the net agreement score from substantive opinions only, excluding noise.

What Is Mood-Net?

Mood-Net is a score from -1 to +1 that measures the net agreement of substantive opinions:

  • +1: Complete agreement (all substantive comments support the thesis)
  • 0: Balanced (equal support and disagreement)
  • -1: Complete disagreement (all substantive comments push back)

    • How It Is Calculated

    Only three categories affect Mood-Net:

  • SUP (Support): +1 weight
  • AGA (Against): -1 weight
  • NEU (Neutral): 0 weight

    • All other categories (THIN, OFF, SUS, AGN) are excluded.

    Why Excluding Noise Matters

    Without noise exclusion:

  • Fan praise inflates agreement
  • Bot spam distorts the signal
  • Self-promotion skews results

    • With noise exclusion, Mood-Net shows what real people with real opinions actually think.

    Reading Mood-Net

  • 0.5 to 1.0: Strong agreement
  • 0.0 to 0.5: Leaning positive
  • -0.5 to 0.0: Leaning negative
  • -1.0 to -0.5: Strong disagreement

    • Limitations

    Mood-Net measures opinion, not reach. A video with Mood-Net +0.8 but 100 comments has strong agreement but limited impact. Always consider sample size.
